Interview with Nobel laureate Joseph Stiglitz during his stay at Amfora Hvar Grand Beach Resort

Joseph Stiglitz is a Nobel-Prize-winning economist and founder of the branch of economics known as "The Economics of Information." He is a professor at Columbia University, author of several books on international economics and was enlisted by Time magazine as one of the "100 Most Influential People in the World" in the 2011 edition.

In the past few days, Mr. Stiglitz visited Split as a guest of the University of Split where he was awarded an honorary doctorate and today he was a guest speaker at the11th International Scientific Conference held at the Amfora Conference Centre on the theme "Challenges of Europe: Growth, competitiveness and inequality".

We meet the Nobel prize-winning economist during his check-out at Amfora Hvar Grand Beach Resort and he agrees to exchange a short chat with us enjoying the breathtaking views from Amfora's 4th floor lobby bar panoramic terrace.

Travel can expose you to many unique experiences. This is the second time I am visiting Croatia and I must say that I am thrilled with the uniqueness of its landscapes, gastronomy and people” those are the rewarding words with whom we get accustomed to Mr. Stiglitz. Not only is he immensely polite and solicitous but he sports a friendly and welcoming smile throughout the interview which just proves us he is very down to earth although being one of the world's foremost authorities in the field of macroeconomics and issues related to the distribution of wealth in general.

We are pleased to make this interview available to all of our eager followers.

On visiting Croatia

This is my second time in Croatia, the first time I have visited Dubrovnik which was very impressive. Back in U.S. i have not heard about the island of Hvar but since the moment I came here, I am very pleased with the destination and its surroundings. I enjoyed some very heartwarming hospitality and I really liked the visit to the local winery and the tour of hidden stone villages. The island is rich in unparalleled sceneries and what is surprising me the most is its diversity.

On spreading the experience of visiting Hvar with its fellow students at Columbia University

Certainly I will share the experience with my students; I do it with every remarkable travel experience. Most probably some of them will be interested to deepen their knowledge and make a research on the countries with economies in transition which is an interesting topic I am monitoring too.

Our time is up. Quick-smart, he's on his feet, shaking hands and joining his wife Anya Schiffrin, a lovely lady with a charming smile. Right in front of Amfora’s modern lobby grand entrance, his car and entourage are already waiting. We greet him once again and wish him a safe trip back home.
