Hvar Island is part of the Splitsko-dalmatinska county in Dalmatia, Croatia and a part of the central Dalmatian archipelago. With an area of 299.6 sq km (length 68.2 km, width up to 10.5 km), Hvar stretches between the islands of Brač, Vis and Korčula. It is the longest and sunniest of the Adriatic islands. Hvar town is the most desirable vacationing destination throughout the year. The other main towns on the island are Stari Grad and Jelsa. There are four ports of entry for passenger ferries and catamarans to Hvar Island: Hvar town, Stari Grad, Jelsa and Sućuraj.
•From Split to Stari Grad: there are between three and five car ferries a day. The trip takes two hours. For exact ferry schedules, please visit www.jadrolinija.hr.
•From Split to Hvar: town there are between 2 and 3 catamarans a day (for passengers only) and the trip takes around 1 hour. More information about catamaran lines to Hvar can be found at www.jadrolinija.hr and at www.krilo.hr.The majority of Suncani Hvar hotels are located in the heart of the town centre, with only 2-5 minutes walking distance from the Hvar port. One of our hotels is located in a tranquil bay outside the town, but it is still not very far from the town centre (cca 25 minutes walking distance).
We offer luggage transportation services to hotels from all catamarans which arrive to Hvar port.* According to the newly issued regulation and following the historical monuments preservation and environmental standards, motor vehicles are not anymore allowed to enter Hvar’s old city center. To ease and simplify your arrival to your Sunčani Hvar Hotel our transfers’ team will wait for you at the catamaran docking to take over your luggage and escort you to the nearest shuttle pick-up point that is short walk away.
There is a public pebble beach right in front of the hotel. Bonj ‘les bains’ beach club is located in Amfora bay as well. The closest airport to Hvar Island is Split airport (www.split-airport.hr). There is a bus shuttle service from the airport to the port of Split where you can find boat lines to the island of Hvar. (www.jadrolinija.hr)
There are also road and rail connections to Split port from Zagreb (Croatian capital) airport (www.zagreb-airport.hr). Average journey time from Zagreb to Split is 4 hours by car and 5 to 6 hours by bus or train. Train and bus stations are located at the Split port.There are several options for you to get to the island of Hvar from Split. There is an organized bus shuttle service from t the airport to the port of Split, wwhich takes around 30 minutes. From Split port you can choose from several ferry and catamaran lines, depending on your final destination on the island of Hvar (Stari Grad, Jelsa, Hvar town). Stari Grad and Sućuraj ferries take cars and Hvar town has pedestrian-only catamarans. Buses to Hvar city meet ferries coming into Stari Grad (buses do not meet the car ferry in Sućuraj). There are catamaran lines from Split to the town of Jelsa with a quick stop at Bol (neighbouring Brač island ) and direct catamaran lines from Split to Hvar that run all year (although more frequently in the summer). To get from Dubrovnik to Hvar, you can take the Jadrolinija coastal ferry from Dubrovnik that runs twice a week from June to September, stopping at the neighbouring island of Korčula. The ferry journey takes between 7 and 8 hours. If you have a car and want to drive from Dubrovnik to Hvar, the best thing to do is to drive from Dubrovnik to the coastal town of Drvenik and take the car ferry to Sućuraj port on the Hvar Island (40 minutes journey). From Sućuraj, you need to drive across the island to Hvar town (distance of 80 km). The other option is driving to Split city, taking the ferry line to Stari Grad and then driving to Hvar town. There is no direct ferry line from Dubrovnik to Hvar town yet.
