Why do we call ourselves Sunčani Hvar (Sunny Hvar)?

Hvar's climate is archetypal Mediterranean. With an annual average of 7.7 hours of sunshine per day and as many as 2843 hours of sun per year, it is the sunniest island in the Adriatic. By comparison, Dubrovnik has an average of 7.0 hours and Nice, in the south of France, averages 7.2 hours of sunshine per day. Winter is gentle, summer is warm, and autumn is slightly warmer than spring. In March and April temperatures gradually rise as the days get longer, so that April on Hvar is much like the mid-summer in the most middle European cities. While overall variations in temperatures are small, Hvar maintains a subtle and romantic change of seasons.
